Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the institute of official witnesses in the structure of governoral (castle administration) power of Grand Duke of Lithuania. The genesis of this institute since Kyivan Rus' period has been investigated. It was analysed the legal regulation of the official witnesses (wyzhi and dits'ki) in the Lituanian-Rus' law in ХV-ХVІ cen., their role in legal proceedings and in a structure of public-law procedures. Practice of wyzhi's testimonies has been analysed on example of Lutsk castle books in 1560-1567 years. It has been characterized the social status of witnesses (wyzhi) and basis of servants subordination in the system of castle administration. It is investigated condition of abolishment of wyzhi during realization of court-administration reform аnd creation of the institute of gentry self-government - "wozny".
