Essay

The object of study - the merchants of Kharkiv province (the second half of 19th – beginning of 20th century) as special social group. The purpose of research is to make the all-round complex characteristic of the merchants of Kharkiv province (the second half of 19th – beginning of 20th century), to reveal in this region typical and especial in development of the merchant in this period. The methods used in the research are: a historical-genetic, historical-typological, comparative, biographical, prosopographical, quantitative. In dissertation social-legal status, social mobility, the number and composition, corporative organization, business and social-political activity of the merchants of Kharkiv province have been investigated.
