Smolnythka M. The Collegium of Pavel Galagan in the Nation and Cultural life of Ukraine (1871-1920).

The thesis is devoted to the complex research of the role of the P.Galagan Collegium, one of the leading educational establishment of the last part of 19th century and the first part of 20th century, in the national and cultural life of Ukraine. Based upon the latest literary sources the main directions, forms and methods of the Collegium's social and cultural activities are reserched. Under the consideration is taken first of all the many - sided activity of its founder Grigorij P.Galagan, because the Collegium made it possible for him to further the cultural genesis of the region. In this thesis we pay much attention to the history and development of the Collegium and the main principle of its activity as the educational establishment in the educational system in the last part of the 19th century and the fist part of the 20th century. In the thesis are formulated the main directions of the Collegium's activity (instructive, literary, scientific, cultural), and each of these directions are alse characterised from the sight of social and cultural life of Ukraine. The separate place in the thesis is devoted to the valuable contribution of the Collegium's graduates to the development of science and culture.
