Essay

Etnosocial relations, ethnocultural, public and political life of Kholmshchyna and Pidliashshia at the beginning of the XX century and apprehending them by various Russian, Polish and Ukrainian public and political forces as well as attitude of these forces to the idea and formation of Kholm Province in 1909-1912, are being investigated. The creation of boroughs their supporters grounded by the necessity of orthodoxy and "Russian" nationality as contrary to Catholicisms and Polonization. Russian social and political circus besides parties and their periodicals of liberal trend backed the decree. Polish deputies of State Council as well as wide scientific, political and social organizations were rather negative towards it, though.
