Serdenko B. Diagnostic and treatment of children with foreign body aspiration in acute period and period of complications

This is the analysis of results of diagnostics and treatment of 222 children at the age of from six month until 15 years old with foreign body aspiration. There were 119 boys and 103 girls. 197 (88.7%) children were on age under 5 years. Only 84 (37.84%) children presented within 24 hours of aspiration.The breach of cellular and humoral immunity of the patients with foreign body aspiration (FBA) is thoroughly studied. On the basis of the investigations carried out in this research there were discovered peculiar features of pathogenesis and morphological genesis of FBA of children.In this work developed the algorithm of the diagnostic search for the patients with FBA. Was confirmed the main role of a bronchoscopy in diagnostics and treatment. Patients were underwent for bronchoscopies, in 211 (95.05%) cases foreign bodies were removed successfully. Surgical treatment for this purpose was used in 11 (4.95%) cases, successfully too. Also 5 (2.25%) patients were underwent for operations, because of complications associated with longstanding retained foreign body aspiration.Among 27 patients with secondary bronchoectasis we observed reverse development in 13 (48.24%) cases.The complex methods of the treatment of children with FBA were proposed.Application of presented methods helps to reduce the number of complications, to cut down the time of treatment and to find distant results in patients with complicated forms of FBA.
