Based on comprehendsive number of arhival and printed sources thesis pots under analysis the problem of changes in administrative and territorial system of Ukrainian SSR in the second half of 1940s - 1960s. Author analyses major trends in planning, preparation and implementation of the administrative and territorial reforms. Author also focuses on the following topics: legal basis of the reforms, stages of this process, distribution of authority on different levels of administrative bodies. Dissertation contains analysis of the major outcomes of the changes in administrative and territorial structures for social life, economics and administrative field. Author pays considerable attention to the different forms of responses from the population and society at whole in the counse of administrative reforms. The policies in the field of re-naming the administrative and territorial units have been disscused in the context of fluctuations in political and ideological agenda.
