Essay

The object of study - the person of G.P. Galagan (1819-1888) as state and public figure, generous charitymaker and enterprising businessman, which directly participated in reforming and updating of social-economic and social-political life of the state in second half of ХІХ century. The purpose of study is on the basis of wide source base to carry out the all-round complex analysis of state, economic and public activity of G. Galagan; to define priority directions in a wide spectrum of devoted service of the Ukrainian landowner to interests of the people and state. The methods used in the research are: problem-chronological, concrete - historical, comparative, statistic-analytical, descriptive. The practical value of research consists in use of the basic ideas of the dissertation, conclusions, actual material for a preparation of scientifical works, in which the participation and role ukranians would be opened at the decision of difficult political and social-economic problems, which had nation-wide value for the Russian empire of that time. The information will be useful also by preparation of educational courses and programs, help literature and tutorials on a history and, certainly, for local-lore researchers. The dissertation centers about the complex study of national, economic and public activity of G. P. Galagan. For the first time specific emphasis is put on the role of the progressive representative of the Ukrainian nobility in the decision of the most challenging tasks of social-economic and political life of the Russian empire. Special attention is given to the analysis of economic activity of G. Galagan as his personal financial success favored his effective, reforming activity and encouraged him to work for charity. .6156
