The thesis is dedicated to the role of Orthodox and Uniate clergy in the national-liberation process in 1596 – 1686. The special features of Ukrainian society ideology after the Union are shown. The level and character of Orthodox and Uniate clergy’s influence on the activity of Ukrainian Cossacks are defined. The place of Ukrainian churches in Hetman State in the second half of XVII century is determined.
