The biography of the prominent Ukrainian historian, archivist, source studier, member-correspondent of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences from 1924 Volodimir Shcherbina (1850-1936) was be re-created in this dissertation on the basis of scientific literature's analysis. Scientific, scientific-organizational, pedagogical, social and cultural-educational activity of V. Shcherbina are elucidated in detail. His creative heritage are analyzed. Shcherbina's place and role in the social life of Ukraine and in the science is shown.
