Essay

The dissertation is dedicated to the complex research of the social-economic and the ethnic-religious relations in landowners' manors in Eastern Podillia at the end of the XVIII - the first a third of the XIX centuries. There have been elucidated the peculiaries of the ground-rent relations and the correlation of the ground-rent forms in different manors at different time. A farm-house has been characterized as an organizational centre of the lord's farm property. There has been shown the dependence of the level and forms of the serf exploitation from the colonization processes and market conjuncture on the agricultural products. On the basis of the sources investigated the typical economic and juridical types of the serf economy were determined. The ethnic structure of the social and estate groups of the landowners' manors inhabitants. The social, economic and juridical position of the residents of private towns and small towns has been analysed. There have been revealed general and specific tendences of the manors functioning, the peculiarities into commodity-money relations, the that hampered the penetration of the progressive methods into economy.
