Essay

Genetic system of controlled maize breeding (GSCB) based on genes of functional male sterility has been developed. It has been shown that genes Vg and Enh(Vg) on the background of a homozygotic genotype can function as components that provide male sterility in the genetic system of controlled breeding. It has been determined that genes ad1, tk and Tu are components of the GSCB allowing to propagate sterile forms. Thus, plants with Vg-ad1ad1, Vg-tktk, Vg-Tu- genotypes can be used for propagation of plants with Vg-Enh(Vg)- genotype. In the developed system segregation of the dominant allele of Vg gene and/or heterozygosity of a genotype with the dominant allele of Vg gene provide restoration of fertility in the first generation hybrids.
