Essay

The dissertation concerns the investigation of the morpho-functional state of the rats' suprarenal glands under conditions of immune depression (caused by the thymectomy) and under immune stimulation (caused by the thymogen) in different age groups and at different observation times. It was found, that thymectomy activates the function of the rats' suprarenal glands, accompanied by the increase in a series of morphometric parameters in comparison with the control group. These changes were most characteristic to the immature and mature rats, whereas, in the old group, they were less significant and could be determined only on early stages of the experiment. The author used the three-dimensional spatial reconstruction of the suprarenal glands from the series of the histological sections. The correlations between the capacious parts of the external stromal capsule, cortical, and medullar zones in the digitally reconstructed glands, were established in the groups of the thymectomized and none-thymectomizedrats. New data on the spatial organization of the mentioned above elements of the suprarenal glands were obtained. In contrast, the thymogen injection decreases functional activity of the suprarenal glands, which is accompanied by the decrease in morphometric parameters observed on the histological sections of the suprarenal glands under light microscopy and ultramicroscopic investigation. The most significant deviations from the control group were found in the immature and mature rats.
