Subject of inquiry - details of recurrence of "the strength of caryopsis insertion to corn cob" trait in self-pollinated lines of corn and hybrids. The aim of research - the identification of parent material on given trait and the elaboration of principles of paternal pairs selection at their hybridization. The research methods are generally used for corn breeding. The scintific conceptions about the recurrence of "the strength of caryopsis insertion to corn cob" in self-pollinated lines on the elements of its structure are extended; the correlation dependences of given trait with the characters "the number of grain rows", "the number of grains in a row", "ear length" and "the depth of caryopsis laying down into corn cob" in self-pollinated corn hybrid lines are revealed. The self-pollinated lines with light threshing type and a complex of economic characters that are proposed for the use when developing hybrids suitable for mechanized threshing and gathering by grain-harvesting combines are selected,what hasthe considerable economic efficiency as compared with harvesting in ears. The recommendations for self-pollinated corn line breeding are elaborated. The research results are introduced to breeding work of the Institute of Fodders of the UAAS and the National Center of Plant Genetic Resources of Ukraine attached to the V.Ya. Yuryev Institute of Plant Growing of the UAAS. A number of hybrids with a optimum complex of economic characters and different threshen type are developed. The field of application - breeding scientific institutions.
