Essay

The thesis investigates the key issues of national-cultural movement in Ukraine during perestroika years: the problems of revival of the titular language and national historical memory. Analyzet the paractical implementation of linguistic and historical issues for political mobilization of masses, building of national indentity, and ideological justification of the policy of differnt social and political organizations aimed at acquiring political power. Historical parallels between the appropriate national-cultural processes in Ukraine and other Soviet republics are drawn. Shown is the ideological Transformation of the Ukrainian political elite from Communist into nationalist.
