Essay

In the dissertation on the basis of studying of the published and archives documents, domestic and foreign historiography, periodical pre-conditions of foundation of the Common Ukrainian Council (1915-1916), its structure, the main program bases are investigated. The influence of the Common Ukrainian Council and social-political processes in Volyn' and Kholmshchyna are revealed; the cultural-educational actions in the West-Ukrainian Lands and among the war prisoners in the concentration camps of Austrian-Hungary and Germany. The role and the meaning of the Common Ukrainian Council for consolidation of national-democratic forces in the struggle for the statehood and unity of Ukraine are generalized.
