Goncharov V. Jewish population of South-East Ukraine. 1816-1917

The thesis is a comprehensive historical investigation of the Jewish population of Southeast Ukraine during 1861 - 1917. On the basis of wide circle of sources periodization of the Jewish community formation process has been presented; the role of natural process of the Jewish migration has been determined as well as the role of the policy of Russian Empire, directed to formation of the regional Jewish community; the amount of the Jewish population and geography of its regional localization have been ascertained. The investigation peculiarity is that not only the external manifestations of the Jewish activity have been considered but also an attempt to clarify the inner sense of this activity (changes in upbringing and education) has been done. These changes, caused by influence of religious and historical traditions, revealed the transition of the regional Jewish community from traditional to industrial society
