Exclusive attention is attached to clarifying the role of such societies in Ukrainian national rebirth in certain chronological period. The work is devoted to the network of the university historic societies on the whole and to every single society in particular. The trends of activity of historic societies, organization and peculiarities of their duties are investigated on the basis of a great number of sources. As a result of investigation the author came to the conclusion that the role of the university historic scientific societies in the Ukrainian national rebirth of the last third of the XIXth century - 1917 is defined.
