Object: pedagogical theory and practice in Ukraine in the 20s–30s of the XX ct.; the aim: to reveal the specific and tendencies of the development of theory and practice of social education in Ukraine in the 20s–30s of the XX ct.; methods: the analysis of the scientific literature and the archives materials; the comparative method; he systematization for interpreting the real material and defining the tendencies of the development of the social upbringing; novelty: for the first time the peculiarities and the tendencies of the development of the social upbringing in the 20s–30s of the XX ct. are defined; the historical-graphical analysis of the problem is conducted; the notion “the social upbringing” is elaborated, the bevore unknown materials are introduced in the scientific usage; the results: the usage of the materials in the process of teaching History of Рpedagogy, Social Pedagogy, in the work of the social youth centers; sphere – History of pedagogy.
