The object of study - a system of the education in Kharkiv guberniya in the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of the ХХth century. The purpose of study is a study of history of the creating and development of charities in educational sphere in Kharkiv guberniya in the second half of the XIXth - the beginning of the ХХth century The methods used in the research are: historical, logical, problem-chronological, comparative-historical, retrospective, regional approach in study of the histories of Ukraine. Practical value of the research: findings and generalizations of the work can be used in practice of the modern educational institutions, when making the Board of guardians, attraction additional investment through the institute of guardianship, in work of the state establishments with charitable organization, private citizen, businessman. This study centers on the research of the origin and development of charitable activities in the field of education in Kharkiv guberniya in the second half ofthe XIXth - the beginning of the XXth century. The project is based on the analysis given to a wide range of sources most of which are submitted to examination in Ukrainian historiography for the first time. The main tendency of creating and the peculiarities of organizing the charity system in the field of education are studied. Basic directions, forms, methods and the activity of the state, municipal and public charity organization are analyzed. The role of the Board of guardians and patrons in the development of education in Kharkiv guberniya is determined. The thesis scientifically proves that the charitable work in the field of education was realized in co-operation with the general tendencies of the country and society development, but in had its own peculiarities.
