The thesis is devoted to the prominent Ukrainian philologist, pedagogue and public figure Pavlo G. Zhytetsky (second half of XIX – beginning of XX century). It describes the forming of Zhytetsky’s social, political and scientific views. The text deals with the teacher’s work of Zhytetsky. It is showed the significance of Zhytetsky’s scientific activity for the development of Ukrainian science, culture and education. The study characterizes P. G. Zhytetsky as a considerable figure of Ukrainian national movement.
