Essay

A scientific cultural educational and socio-political activities of the South-Western Department of Russian Geographic Society (1873-1876) is investigated in complex analysis. The historical context and reasons for emerging of the South-Western Department of Russian Geographic Society in Kyiv and its contacts with the Ukrainian movement of Hromada are being researched and analysed alongside of the leading members and their contribution into the work of the Department as well as the causes witch led to its liquidation are under stady.
