Essay

The Thesis is dedicated to the integrative processes regarded through intercultural communication. The complex analysis of modern societies results in denoting the basic grounds for creating common social-cultural space. They are the degree of I-concept forming, compatibility of contacting societies, ability for adaptation and the direct and indirect impact-building strategies used by the societies that are in the state of being integrated. Archetype-based social-cultural code system of society is considered to contain the features that enable functioning of the society as an actor of intercultural communication. The candidate has made an attempt to find out the role of social codes of "proper" and "different" and the ways of their influence on the processes of integration between societies and their withdrawal. The former code means the information that doesn't confront the stable cultural and social patterns of the society and the latter one denotes the means of prevention the unique features from mingling with those of the other society during integration. The notions of "relation" and "responsibility" are mentioned as indicating the reciprocal dissolving and separation processes of the codes of "proper" and "different". The dissertation presents the classification of the stages that can be reached by a society during formation of its social-cultural code system. They are "sand" (unstable), "clay" (semi stable), "ore" (stable, seeking impact), and "silica" (set, low pliability and adaptation). The stages and mechanisms of integrative processes are illustrated with the examples of societies (USA, EU, Ukraine and other). The peculiarities of unity-forming processes are regarded through comparison of integration (discourse-based creating of common space) and coagulation (danger-provoked uniting) as well as factors influencing interaction of societies. The examples of adaptation of "proper" and "different" spheres are viewed in the context of commonness-building in modern societies. Comparative analysis of"globalization" and cross-cultural communication shows the ways of their simultaneous realization nowadays and accentuates the perspectives of further investigations of the social processes in terms of informational epoch.
