In these theses basic theoretical principles of travertines' studying as specific continental carbonate sediments have been highlighted. The principles of their spreading, their morphology, fossil plants and mollusks have been described; modern natural territorial complexes are viewed. An attempt to determine peculiarities of modern travertines creation on the territory of Podillya was made. Basing on the studying of modern travertine creation, as well as on the analysis of fossil plants and mollusks, the paleogeographical conditions of travertine creation on the territory of Podillya have been clarified.
