Essay

The research is devoted to the study of the symbolic meanings belonging to the primary elements of existence (water, fire, earth, air) and to the analysis of the peculiarities of their realization in fairy-tales. The investigation of Russian fairy-tales revealed a variety of symbolic meanings expressed by the primary elements. Symbols used in fairy-tales, being polysemantic and polyfunctional, are relevant to the mentality of modern Russian-speaking people. The results of the investigation showed the existence of certain interdependency between textual and verbal realization of language.
