Sytnik V. M. Mihnovskiy's social and political activity

In the dissertation social and political activity of M. Mihnovskiy (1873-1924), the founder and ideologist of "samostiynytsky" (independent) stream in Ukrainian national movement at the end of the XIX - beginning of the XX century, is studied. On the basis of wide sources and present historiography the integral system analysis of basic directions and forms of M. Mihnovskiy's public activity in different historic periods is carried out, beginning with his participation in "Fraternity of tarasivtsi" in 90th years of the XIX century and concluding with the state-creative efforts during the period of the UNR. The main attention is concentrated on the peculiarities of his tactics in different historic circumstances and exceptional consistency in realizing strategic purpose of independent movement - building the sovereign, united, democratic Ukrainian state; it is shown that constantly giving priority to the solving of national question, M. Mihnovskiy did not consider it end in itself, but only the means ofbuilding prosperous socially just and democratic society. In the dissertation the thought that M. Mihnovskiy's radicalism was historically justified and corresponded to the realities of that social and historic situation, had mainly structural character, is clarified. M. Mihnovskiy's experience in ideological, educational, propagandistic, practical-organizational activity must be critically overcomprehended and taken into account in the practice of public transformations in modern Ukraine.
