It is characterized social and professional features of the Ukrainian intellectuals in Galicia at the end of XIX th century and at the beginning of XX th century. It is analised the influence of the secondary schools, high schools and student communities on the forming of Ukrainian intellectuals. At the first time it is researched the social origin of intellectuals and the main tendencies in its changes during the mentioned period. The main professional groups of intellectuals, their professional level and preparation conditions are characterized in the thesis. The great attention is paid to the professional activity of the most magnificent representatives of each group. It is researched the welfare standards of different groups of intellectuals. The work and life conditions and peculiarities of the spending of leisure time by intellectuals are revealed in the thesis.
