Essay

In the dissertation there is studied the history of the Orthodox Church in Bukovyna during 1944-1991. The principal attention was focused on the state and church relations that mainly influenced the development of the church. There are traced the changes of church and secular character that took place in the status of the Bukovynian Orthodox Church after accession of the Chernivtsi Region in Ukrainian SSR (Soviet Socialist Republic) and Soviet Union. There is characterized the attitude of clergy and parishioners towards state policy concerning church, and there is unveiled the role of church dissidents.
