Essay

In this thesis the investigation of Ukrainian decorative lamps as a peculiar kind of ornamental art has been done. We have specified historical periods of development of West European and Ukrainian lighting units, and have determined stylistic peculiarities of these items. We have worked out the typology, and have ascertained the specific character of synthesis of different materials and means of expressiveness which determine the figurative specificity of the lamps at style boundaries of the Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism and Modern. We have also analyzed pieces of design of Ukrainian lighting units of the 20th century.
