Essay

The dissertation gives a comprehensive analysis of stages of formation of Vyzhnytsia Art School and the current functioning of the artistic community, as well as the synthesis of traditions and innovative approaches in the work of Vyzhnytsia area artists. Vyzhnytsia School of Applied Arts has over a century long history. The foundation of the School was laid by the artists V. Shkribliak, M. Mehedeniuk, V. Devdiuk, known way beyond the territory of Bukovyna, who, in turn, employed a centuries-old folk tradition of making decorative and applied items. There were substantial preconditions for the foundation of Vyzhnytsia art school. At the beginning of the century there was a traditional center, where folk artists practiced turnery, carpentry, carpet weaving, embroidery. Secrets of crafts were learnt, inherited, passed on and improved by entire families of artisans from generation to generation. The school underwent a series of complex processes of breaking with the conventional ideological practices and stereotypes.
