Makienko O. Development of zemstvo’s statistics in Kherson province

The object of study – activity of zemstvo’s self-management of Kherson province in sphere of statistical researches in second half ХІХ - in beginning ХХ. The purpose of study is complex reconstruction of process of development of zemstvo’s statistics in Kherson province, definition of its organization, main directions of statisticians activity in structure of zemstvo’s self-management, finding-out of their practical achievement in study of region, importance of their researches for formation of zemstvo’s statistics as branches of regional research. The methods used in the research are: comparative-historical, historical-genetic, typological, problem-chronological. The practical value of work consists in use of the received results by preparation of lecture courses and special courses on history of Ukraine and Kherson province, source study, historical local-lore, history of statistics, for preparation of the thematic additional editions. The dissertation dedicated to study forms, directions and resultsof development statistical affair in zemstvo’s institutes of Kherson province. The author examined in system a different branchs of zemstvo statistics as a component of region research. Problems of growing statistical affair in zemstvos connected with difficulties in forming of local self-governing. On the basis of wide circle sources defined a premises of beginning, a peculiarities of organization and function zemstvo’s statistics services in the region, uncovered an interaction of statisticians with zemstvo’s institutes, administration power, local population. Defined scientific achievements of the kherson statisticians on study of cultural and economic development Kherson’s region, there’s influence on theory and practice of statistics. Proving a main role of zemstvo statistical legacy in forming of infrastructure and conceptual basises of region studies.
