Soloidenko H. Development of Ukrainian Library Terminology in the Second Half of the 20th Century

The dissertation is devoted to the complex historical and library research of the development of Ukrainian library terminology in the second half of the 20th century (1950-2005). Main stages of the formation of Ukrainian library terminology are indicated as well as leading tendencies of term formation during each of the stages. A thorough analysis of the major factors that impact library terminology is undertaken. They include the standardization, informatization and computerization of library processes and term formation in related fields. It is shown that this period is characterized by an elaboration of theoretical principles of library terminology, the result of which became its systematization and active lexicographical work. The author generalizes the basic principles of the compilation of a glossary of professional terminology, and determines the sequence and relationship of the stages of terminological work.
