Essay

Development of female educational institutions in Kyiv within 1861-1920th is investigated on the basis of analysis of the wide range of archival and published sources. Primary types of female educational institutions which exist in Kyiv during the examined period are defined. The dissertator determined that basic type of the Kyiv elementary school were one-class parochial schools, two-class female schools was much less prevailed. As well as all over the Ukraine the network of elementary schools of Kyiv was undeveloped. In the process of investigation there was proved, that secondary female education has been represented by Institute of noble maidens, twenty grammar schools, both state and private character, and two female religious schools. The dissertator asserts that the essence of "women's issue" in the second half of ХІХ century - in the beginning of XX century has consisted in the realization of the right of women on higher education. The leading part in this process belonged to the Kyiv female higher school, Zekylina Evening female higher school and Frebel Pedagogical institute.
