Essay

The object of study – the development of historical study of local lore on the Left Bank Ukraine (in Kharkov, Poltava and Chernigov provinces) in the second half of the XIX-th and the beginning of the XX-th century. The purpose of study is illumination of the basic tendencies of occurrence, formation and development of historical study of local lore in Kharkov, Poltava and Chernigov provinces in the second half of the XIX-th and the beginning of the XX-th century, and also definition of a role of state authority and public in this process. The methods used in the research are: historizm, scientific character, objectivity, dialectic and system approach, comparison, analogy and synthesis, individualization and generalization. The practical value of work consists in use of materials of the dissertation by preparation of lecture courses on a history of study of local lore, special courses on study of local lore, study of museum and tourism problems, at a spelling of course and degree works, preparationof generalizing works on a history of our country. The thesis devoted to the development of historic study of local lore in the Left Bank Ukraine in the second half of the nineteenth and the first part of the twentieth century is the first complex research in Ukrainian historiography. The main areas of the study are: analysis of social and economic as well as social and political factors influence on the historic study of local lore development in the Left Bank Ukraine provinces at that time; interpreting the participation of authorities and public representatives in the local lore study, stating their influence on the historic study of local lore development; analysis of the main local lore study cells, establishing the main causes and circumstances under which they appeared, revealing the role of these establishments in the development of historical and local lore study movement; investigation of the study of local lore scholars activities in that period.
