The thesis gives an analysis of the scientific activity and historical-cultural heritage of the outstanding academician Mykola Petrov ( the 2nd half of 19th - the beginning of 20th century). The formation of the main viewpoints and the individual scientific style has been researched on the base of biobibliographic sources. The intellectual biography and its diverse creative features have been researched as a complex system. M.Petrov's scientific heritage contains more than 280 books over historical and cultural problems, which were not studied properly. The researcher's attention is concentrated on M.Petrov's scientific work in Clerical Historical and Archeological Society and Clerical Archeological Museum affiliated to Kyiv Spiritual Academy, on his participation in scientific societies and congresses (especially archeological), on is contribution to the studies of history of Ukraine, Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and Kyiv as a whole. The great deal of sources is introduced into the scientific practice for the first time.
