Haustova O. Development of charity in Kharkov in the second half of ХІХ – the beginning of ХХ century

The object of study – socio-economic, public life of Kharkiv in socio-economic and political conditions of the second half of ХІХ – the beginning of ХХ century. The purpose of study is on the basis of the analysis of a wide circle of sources and literature to show process of development of charities in Kharkiv. The methods used in the research are: objectivity, historizm, problem-chronological method. The practical value of work consists in use of the dissertation in the further study of questions of development of charities in Ukraine, in preparation of lectures and special courses on study of local lore. In the dissertation on the basis of analysis and systematization of a wide circle of sources the majority of which is first brought into a scientific use, the origin and development of charity in Kharkiv in the second half of ХІХ – the beginning of ХХ century is explored. Basic tendencies and features of the charitable activity directed to help the scanty means layers of population are analyzed in the work, basic directions, forms and methods of charitable help are studied. The mechanism of creation, activity and financing of state, class, private and public charitable institutions is shown. Effectiveness of the charitable measures directed at support of the scanty means is traced. The level of cooperation of state, public and private guardianship is determined. It is proved in dissertation, that development of charity in Kharkiv in the studied period took place in close connection with the general progress trends of charitable business in the empire, but had its own regional features.
