The dissertation is devoted to investigation of psychological peculiarities of servicemen's career orientations. The work highlights the contents and basic types of servicemen's professional career as well as psychological determinants of career promotion in army organizations. There have been found three types of servicemen's career orientations: profession-oriented, autonomous, and stable. The author reveals correlations between types of servicemen's career orientations and their a) individual attributes (intellectual, emotional, motivational, and communicative), b) organizational and professional characteristics (category, position, length of service), and c) socio-demographic characteristics (age, gender, marital status). Optimization of development of servicemen's career orientations was found to be possible due to servicemen's special psychological training that included: a) acquisition of knowledge about the contents and role of career orientations in professional career; b) development of skills in diagnosing their own career orientations and orientation-relevant attributes; c) development of skills necessary for taking into account individual career orientations and their optimization for a successful career.
