The thesis analyses the role of productive labour in the versatile development of a personality, defines the main stages of developing productive labour, considering the periods of developing Ukrainian pedagogical ideas within the chronological boundaries of the 20th century. V.O. Sukhomlynskiy's, I.G. Tkachenko's, O.A. Zakharenko's pedagogical experience in organizing schoolchildren's productive labour has been summarized. The contemporary ways of organizing schoolchildren's productive labour at comprehensive schools as well as technical schools have been defined.
