Essay

The thesis is a complex historical research of the strike movement of Ukrainian miners in 1989 – 1999. The greatest miners’ strikes which took place during the decade are analyzed. The evolution of the ideas and organizational process is revealed. It is proved that the miners’ strike movement helped Ukraine to achieve its independence. The conclusion is made that the strikes have both positive and negative consequences. On the one hand they make for the formation of the public political awareness, on the other hand they undermine the economy of the state.
