Essay

The dissertation is devoted to the problem of ethnic and social evolution of the petty nobility of Galicia in the period of 1772-1914. Having studied the majority of documents there had been described the evolution of the different petty nobility among the social population structure of Galicia; determined the areas of its location and inner division. Due to the analysis of home and foreign literature it had been determined the basis which consisted of the representatives of petty Rus boyars and of partially Polish colonists. The petty nobility of Galicia was characterized by mutual interdependence of ethnic and social identification. Polish scientists view to the Polish petty nobility being made Ukrainians made clear. It had been proved the fact that the petty nobility was identified itself to the Ukrainian nation in the period 19 - early 20th century. The representatives of this social group were Ukrainians by the language and Greek-catholik by the confession. It is noble identification was differ incomparison with peasant's one.
