Essay

The dissertation is devoted to research of total mutagenic activity of sewage, surface and underground waters of Lviv region. It has been revealed that mine waters and manufacturing waters of oil refining and chemical industries have mutagenic effects. Water samples from surface reservoirs, where sewage waters enter, also are able to induce gene and chromosome mutations, somatic recombination. The research of mutagenic activity of water on different stages of water preparation in Lviv water pipe and sanitary water preparation stations of Lviv railway has been investigated and proved the water from artesian wells does not have mutagenic activity. Adding of chlorine or its compounds with purpose of disinfection leads to the induction of gene mutations of different types. It has been shown that daily exposure with sorbents of natural (glauconite, tripoli powder, activated carbon, zeolites) and synthetic (ion-exchanging resins AB-178 and KУ2-8) origin in a series of cases reduced the mutagenic effects of chlorine organic drinking water pollutants.
