Essay

The nature of the social and cultural changes arising in L'viv in the second half of the 1940s, the unfolding of the system of higher education in the city and the causes triggering off resistance on the part of the students to the established Soviet rule have been considered. The forms and methods of the Ukrainian students' clandestine activity have been elucidated. Their participation in the underground movement in the post-war L'viv is treated as an ambivalent phenomenon: the students put up resistance to the processes of sovietization and were subjected to the influence of these processes at the same time.
