Vasilenko A. Peculiarities at the formation of lodging resistance in pea varieties belonging to various morphotypes

Subject: lodging resistance of pea cultivars belonging to different morphotypes. Aim: to assess the effectiveness and to improve the methods for defining lodging resistance in pea cultivars with different morphotypes and some features of its formation, increasing cultivar productivity and securing its stability; to identify a valuable selection material and pea cultivars. Methods: field, measuring weight, group selection, statistical. Novelty: there is determined a mechanical density of the haulm during plant vegetation of pea cultivars belonging to different morphotypes; the method determining haulm linear density is improved; there is shown the effectiveness for the assessment of a valuable selection material and the creation of pea cultivars with high productivity and lodging resistance. Results: there are shown some perspective approaches for improving the productivity structure in pea plants, which further provides for its increase and lodging resistance; there is improved the method for determining haulm linear density that simplifies the assessment of lodging resistance. Application stage: there are created 6 valuable leafless cultivars of peas: of these 4 have been registered in Plant Variety List of Ukraine - Modus (2004), Kamerton (2005), Effectnyi (2006), Eskiz (2007); the cultivar Modus has been being tested in RF since 2006. Application area: breeding institutions, AIC of Ukraine.
