Essay

Subject: selection process for development of cultivars and F1 hybrids of vegetable marrow and custard squash. Aim: to ascertain genetical and ecological-adaptive peculiarities of manifestation of valuable traits in the genepool, to work out methods of a rapid selection. Methods: visual, measure-weight, mathematical-statistical, calculation. Novelty: there is developed original valuable for selection material; there are identified sources for separate economic traits; there are improved breeding methods. Results: there are revealed adaptive properties for analytic and heterotic selection. Application stage: 2 new cultivars of vegetable marrow and 1 hybrid of custard squash have entered the State Plant Variety List of Ukraine. Application area: breeding institutions, AIC of Ukraine.
