Mechanisms of compression. To work out the basic cognitive and linguistic mechanisms and modes of compression of nominative units and functioning of compressed nominative units in scientific and technical texts, related to the sublanguage of civil engineering construction. Methods of research are descriptive, comparative and a method of modeling.The existence of some schemes of nominative units' compression and the proposed conception of elaboration of principal cognitive models of compression have been ascertained. The point of their diffusion as well as quantitative and qualitative analysis have been investigated. The peculiarities оf functioning of complete and contracted variants of nominative units in special text have been worked out. The perception peculiarities of compressed nominative units by the recipients have been analyzed. The dictionary of abbreviations of civil engineering construction field has been made up.
