Pastushenko T. Ostarbeiters from Ukraine: Recruitment, Forced Labour, Repatriation (Historical and Social Analysis Based on Materials from Kyiv Region).

By the example of inhabitants of Kyiv and Kyiv Region the thesis examines social group of citizens of Ukraine who forcibly worked in Nazi Germany during the years of World War II and belonged to the category of Ostarbeiters. The thesis shows prerequisites, main means and methods of transportation of labour force to Germany, analyses social and legal state of Ostarbeiters in Reich, determines peculiarities of functioning of Soviet repatriation system in Ukraine. The thesis realizes critical analysis of existing statistical information of repatriated inhabitants of Kyiv region. Checking the quantity of population deported to Germany from Kiev region gave new number of 174 263 persons. In turn it shows needfulness of further studies of given problem. It examines changes in social structure, legal status, life cycles, attitudes, behavioural strategy of Ostarbeiters in time stretch from transportation to the territory of Reich till return and initial stage of social adaptation on native land.
