Shcherbyna N. Development of Historical Study of Local Lore in Odessa Region (1944-1991)

The dissertation is the first consideration of complex research of the development of Historical study of local lore in Odessa region in 1944-1991. Basing upon studies of archive documents, periodical press materials and local lore literature, general tendencies, forms and directions of local lore centers' activity in Odessa region in the time of intensification of crisis of Soviet regime, were studied. The dissertation analyzes the contribution and mistakes of museums, libraries, archives, scientific and civil societies' activity to studies of history of the region. The contribution of historians and local lore researchers to the development of historical and local lore studies in Odessa region was discovered, biographical information previously unknown to scientific community of local-lore researchers-amateurs was found out. By example of preparation of Odessa volumes of "History of cities and villages of Ukrainian SSR" and "Catalogue of history and culture monuments" the convergence of civil and scientific forms of local lore studies in the said period were revealed.
