The researcher studied how Volhynian dietine as the local administration assembly of the gentry, or szlachta, came into being in the context of general administration practices of the second half of the XVII century. The important questions on the agenda of the dietine meetings included the financing of army and the defense of the voyevodeship territories, and providing army with food stuff and weaponry, maintaining and improving the crown artillery, as well as fixing destroyed fortification systems. The author identified different types of taxes and duties regularly levied on the population of Volhynian voyevodeship. Volhynian gentry also showed their interest in questions related to the state monetary policy. Szlachta discussed problems of legal proceedings, including those of the courts of the highest authority, law code, formation and development of the judicial bodies, accountability of individuals for offences.
