The dissertation highlights the activities of the Ukrainian Institute 'National Home' in L'viv within the context of the public life of Halychyna's Ukrainians at the mid-19th century through the early 20th century. The author has analyzed the legal status of Institute, its social composition, member's world outlook which has been formed under conditions of the search of national identity. The evolution of the ideological background of the National Home - from Old Ruthenian to Russophile is performed. A great attention is paid to the cultural and educational activities of the National Home, the cooperation with other cultural and academic institutions and Russophile-Populist rivalry for Institute's control.
