Grytsenko V. Social activity of Mykola Arkas.

This dissertation is devoted to study the social activity of Mykola Arkas. Plenty of spiritual, public, political and social factors that influenced at the mentioned person are deeply studied using wide factual material. The great massif of new significant and important material, which was used during the investigation, let to light main aspects of this dissertation. It was studied that Arkas' social activity was aimed at rising and development of national conscious of Ukrainian uneducated classes. Such works by Arkas as ,,The history of Ukraina-Rusi" and the opera "Katherine" should be understood as cultural and instructive phenomena in the life of Ukrainian society of those times. The main mission of mentioned works was to spread and popularize Ukrainian language, culture and history of Ukraine. The same depiction was formed concerning activity of Arkas at ,,Prosvita society" of the city of Mykolaiv, his philanthropy, creation of the elementary school with teaching on Ukrainian language. These deedsof Mykola Arkas reflect his direct contribution concerning rising and development of Ukrainian national conscious. Among different aspects, the dissertation contains the review of the problem on relations between Mykola Arkas and the professor Mykhailo Grushevsky on publishing ,,The history of Ukraina-Rusi" by Mykola Arkas.
