Zhuravel V. Development of the source material for breeding of Indian and white mustard by a method of chemical mutagenesis

Subject: development of the source material for breeding of Indian and white mustard by a method of chemical mutagenesis. Aim: to determine of efficiency of mutation induction in mustard using chemical mutagene ethylmethane sulfonate and development of new source material on this basis for plant breeding. Methods: chemical mutagenesis, calculation and isolation of visible mutations, field, laboratory, mathematical and statistical. Novelty: the efficacy of chemical mutagenesis was ascertained for development of agronomically-important accessions of mustard with new mutant traits, the best optimum concentration (0,01 and 0,05%) of mutagene EMS influence and efficacy of development of mustard varieties of new generation with marker traits. Results: the efficacy of the use of chemical mutagenesis for development of practically valuable varieties in mustard was shown. The collection of mutant accessions was made. With the method of direct mutant selection two new varieties of Indian mustard with distinctivemorphological traits were developed. Application stage: the transferred to the State Service for Plant Variety Rights Protection in 2005 Indian mustard varieties Retro and Dizhonka of mutant origin were considered as perspective, Zaporizhanka variety of white mustard is under trial since the year 2006.
